Idol 7 Is David Archuleta’s To Lose

Trade publications are beginning to admit that David Archuleta has Idol 7 in the bag. While I wouldn’t go that far in proclaiming him the winner, I will say he has a good chance. Just look at his target audience and the sheer numbers below. This is a really flippin' long story but I'll give you the highlights. The story makes sense.

The Trades Says:
Teen-based entertainment is surging right now, and David is almost certainly big beneficiary of an audience that has been responsible for the following:
Nickelodeon's "iCarly" is consistently in the Nielsen top 10 cable programs each week -- even for its reruns. Disney's Hannah Montana grabbed 10.7 million viewers for an episode this past year -- the highest rating ever for a regular cable TV series. The reason for the huge audience? The "High School Musical 2" movie premiere, which pulled in almost 17 million viewers -- the largest numbers in basic cable's history. The soundtracks for both "High School Musical" TV movies have been certified mult-platinum, and have sold close to a combined 8 million copies. The Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus "Best of Both Worlds" concert tour was one of the hottest tickets in recent memory, with every performance sold out and scalped ticket prices often eclipsing $1,000. On its opening weekend, the Hannah Montana "Best of Both World" 3-D movie raked in more than $29 million, despite playing on an extremely limited number of screens -- and setting a record for the most revenue earned by a 3-D movie in a single weekend. The two Hannah Montana CDs have both sold more than 3 million copies, and both peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard album charts.

If Archuleta doesn’t win the competition, there will be millions of angry kids roaming the streets in search of the people who didn’t vote for the little lizard. If you think things are bad now, just wait until Carly Smithson wins the competition and little America revolts.

RealityMarkets.com has an American Idol prediction market running that also has David Archuleta winning. Right now his probability is around 61% which is pretty big considering past idol contestants have been much closer this far out.
